The Headmaster of Dormaa Senior High School (Great DORMASS), Mr. Thomas Armstrong Asante, has emphasised that discipline remains a fundamental pillar in ensuring effective teaching and learning in schools.
He stated that when students refrain from harmful behaviours and adhere to the guidance of teachers and parents, stressed the importance of a well-equipped and conducive learning environment.
He noted that while Dormaa SHS has numerous classrooms and a science laboratory, these facilities require renovations to create a more appealing and effective academic setting.
Highlighting the school’s academic prowess, he proudly mentioned Dormaa SHS’s consistent success in various competitions.
He believes that with improved infrastructure, the school can achieve even greater milestones.
The headmaster voiced concerns over students frequently seen roaming the town during school hours. He attributed this challenge to the incomplete perimeter fence around the school, making it easier for students to leave unnoticed.
He urged parents, teachers, and stakeholders to collaborate in constructing the fence to prevent such occurrences.
Additionally, he revealed ongoing discussions to elevate Dormaa SHS from a Grade ‘B’ to a Grade ‘A’ institution.
However, he emphasized that Category ‘A’ status comes with significant infrastructural requirements.
He, therefore, called on parents and stakeholders to support efforts in improving the school’s facilities to help achieve this upgrade.
Mr. Asante further advocated for community involvement in curbing student truancy. He encouraged parents and residents to take photographs of students seen loitering in town during school hours and report them to school authorities. This, he believes, will help enforce discipline and serve as a deterrent to others.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to fostering a disciplined and academically competitive institution, urging all stakeholders to play their part in ensuring the continuous growth and success of Dormaa Senior High School.
