The Concerned Drivers Association (C-DAG) and Transport Operators have urged the general public to disregard reports of a 30 percent increment in transport fares.
This comes after a press statement released on Monday, February 4, indicated that the driver unions intend to begin the implementation of the 30 percent increment from March 7.
According to the leadership of the two unions, the said statement released yesterday was done by three of their regional chairmen, without authorization.
“We also urge all commercial transport operators and Ghanaians to disregard any announcement of transport fare increment,” part of the statement read.
The three Chairmen, identified as Nii Ashie, Kwesi Arhin and Yaw Kwaakye, have therefore been suspended by the unions for their action.
“The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana(C-DAG) and transport operators have suspended three executive members with immediate effect.
The three individuals are the Greater Accra regional chairman Nii Ashie, the central regional chairman Kwesi Arhin and the Ashanti regional chairman Yaw Kwakye popularly known as Akwadaa Nyame.
Their one-week suspension is a result of flouting the regulations of the association by issuing a statement that purported to announce an increment in transport fares without the approval of the association and transport operators including the GPRTU.”
They have therefore stated that a determination concerning any increment will be communicated later after deliberations with the transport ministry.
