The Electoral Commission has rescheduled the District Level Elections in some electoral areas in the Ashanti and Eastern regions.
The elections which was scheduled to take place today Tuesday, December 19, 2023, began in various districts across the country but in a press release signed by the Head of Public Affairs at the EC, Michael Boadu, the Commission had to reschedule elections in the Ashanti and Eastern regions due to a number of technical challenges in some electoral areas.
The release further indicated that the elections will take place on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
“We apologize for the inconveniences caused to residents of these Electoral Areas. We assure the residents of the affected areas that the District Level Elections will be held on Thursday, the 21st of December, 2023”.
A total of 66,257 individuals are competing for assembly and unit committee positions in the district-level elections.
According to data from the Electoral Commission, 18,755 individuals are vying for assembly member positions, and 47,502 for the unit committee members in 6,215 electoral areas across 216 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the country
