Global reggae star Gramps Morgan has revealed that genetic testing confirms his heritage is 46% Ghanaian.

The Jamaican vocalist explained that he uncovered this deep ancestral link to the nation after launching a genealogical investigation and undergoing DNA analysis to map his family history.

He shared these findings during his set on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the Accra-based High-Level Consultative Conference on “Next Steps,” an event centered on the United Nations Resolution regarding enslaved Africans.

Reflecting on his lineage, the musician viewed his background as deeply intertwined with the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.

Addressing the audience directly, he stated, “I am one of the children of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. I have done research to find out the truth. When I did a DNA test, I found out that I am 46% Ghanaian. So let the truth be told.”

This revelation has profoundly deepened his bond with Ghana and the African diaspora as a whole, serving as a poignant symbol of their common ancestry.

Furthermore, Morgan voiced his endorsement for international dialogues regarding reparations for the descendants of enslaved Africans, an initiative that Ghana actively spearheads.
