In a bid to protect customers from increasing cases of fraud, Mr. John Anim Peprah, the Dormaa Ahenkro Station Supervisor of VRA-NEDCo, has urged the public to refrain from conducting business transactions over the telephone with third parties.
His warning comes after reports surfaced that certain individuals have been impersonating VRA-NEDCo officials and soliciting payments for electricity-related services, including meter installations.
Mr. Peprah emphasized that VRA-NEDCo does not conduct business transactions via phone calls. Any legitimate services, including the provision of meters, are carried out only at official VRA-NEDCo premises.
He also pointed out that fraudsters have been requesting payments through mobile money transfers, a practice that VRA-NEDCo does not endorse.
“Any payments for services rendered by VRA-NEDCo should be made at our official locations, and official receipts should always be issued. We do not conduct transactions via mobile phones,” Peprah stated. He further warned that anyone engaging in such practices is likely to be a scammer and encouraged customers to stay vigilant.
Peprah also addressed the factors contributing to these fraudulent activities, noting that many Ghanaians, in their busy lives, may delegate responsibilities like acquiring meters to family members, tenants, or electricians, which leaves them vulnerable to fraudsters. Although there have been previous delays in VRA-NEDCo services, Peprah assured that efforts have been stepped up to ensure timely service delivery, reducing the opportunity for fraudulent schemes to take advantage of customers.
To combat the rising number of scams, the management of VRA-NEDCo is actively investigating the perpetrators and working to clamp down on such fraudulent activities. Customers are urged to be cautious and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
