New Board Members of the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) have been inaugurated by the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Speaking during the inauguration, Dr. Akoto indicated that, the GIDA has been active in field activities by undertaking three projects that date way back to the 1960s. The Authority has worked tirelessly to rehabilitate these projects which includes the Tono, Kpong and Vea irrigation projects.

GIDA employed new concepts to revive the abandoned projects. Currently, the three facilities are about to be handed over to The Ministry Of Food And Agriculture – Ghana, hence, the installation of the board.

The projects were rehabilitated with loans from the World Bank and as such, we look forward to generating income for the government of Ghana to pay back these loans. We believe that through proper managerial methods employed by the new board, the facilities will be maintained to keep them in good shape.

Chairman of the board, Mr. Osei Owusu Agyeman from Ghana Commercial Agriculture Project (GCAP) shared his remarks after the board took in the respective oaths. He expressed his appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and to the Ministry for the assurance in them to contribute to the development of Ghana, especially in the Food and Agriculture sector. He averred that, he and his colleagues are committed to harnessing their joint experiences and skills to transform GIDA and the country at large.

Other members of the Board include
Mr. Kwaku Wiafe (Volta River Autority, VRA); Alhaji Suraj Boadi (Irrigation farmer); Dr. Samuel Kwame Kumahor (Ghana Faculty of Agriculture); Dr. Edward Yeboah, Soil Research Institute (CSIR); George Prah (Deputy Director for Crop Services, Ministry of Food and Agriculture) and the CEO of GIDA, Ing. Wilson K. Darkwa.
