Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has visited the Central Business District of Kumasi to assess the aftermath of the recent fire outbreak at Adum Market and express solidarity with affected traders.
During the visit, Dr. Bawumia described the scene as heart-wrenching as he walked through the charred remains of the market.
He extended his sympathies to the traders, acknowledging their losses and assuring them of government support to help them rebuild their businesses.
“My prayers are with the traders, and I hope they receive the necessary assistance from the government and the public to enable them to recover,” he stated.
As part of efforts to support the affected traders, Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢ 200,000 and 1,000 bags of cement to assist in the reconstruction of shops and business spaces.
He assured traders affected that the government is committed to providing relief and long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Dr. Bawumia commended the Ghana National Fire Service personnel for their exemplary work during the recent Kumasi market fire.
The Vice President was accompanied by former Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, and NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The government is currently assessing the extent of the damage to facilitate further interventions for the affected traders.
