Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been elected as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia whose victory did not come as a surprise to many faced tough competition from Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong who was a torn in the flesh of the Vice President since the Super Delegates Congress but the outspoken MP was not a match for Dr. Bawumia.
With over 200,000 delegates from all 275 constituencies across the 16 regions in the country, Dr. Bawumia secured a total of 118,210 votes representing 61.43% of total votes cast.
Kennedy Agyapong who placed second secured 71,996 representing 37. 41% of votes.
Former Agric Minster, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto also managed some 1,449 votes while former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh had 781 votes representing 0.75% and 0.41% respectively.
In general, the election was peaceful with a high voter turnout as expected.
