Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, was awarded a prestigious honour by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the National Honors and Awards ceremony held on Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Center.
Dr. Acheampong was recognized for his outstanding contributions to national development, particularly in the agricultural sector.
His leadership and initiatives have been pivotal in addressing Ghana’s agricultural challenges, including overcoming dry spells and ensuring food security.
One of Dr. Acheampong’s notable achievements includes the distribution of food grants to over 800,000 farmers across eight regions severely affected by adverse weather conditions.
Additionally, his launch of the second phase of the Planting for Food and Jobs [PFJ Phase 2] initiative has been instrumental in safeguarding the nation’s future food security.
Speaking at the event, President Akufo-Addo commended the award recipients for their dedication and service.
He described the honorees as “symbols of triumph over adversity, service over self, and hope over despair,” urging them to use this recognition as motivation for further contributions to Ghana’s development.
About the National Honors and Awards
The National Honors and Awards is an annual event established in 1960 to recognize and celebrate citizens who have rendered distinguished service to Ghana in various fields. The awards celebrate creativity, innovation, excellence, and hard work across multiple disciplines.
The inaugural ceremony took place under the leadership of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah when Ghana became a Republic. Over the years, the awards have become a cornerstone for acknowledging exceptional Ghanaians and foreign nationals who contribute to the nation’s progress.
In 2023, President Akufo-Addo introduced a new category, the Presidential Honors for Distinguished Service, to acknowledge individuals and institutions that demonstrated resilience and extraordinary contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic. He praised the collective efforts of citizens, institutions, and global partners in mobilizing resources and protecting lives during challenging times.
This year’s ceremony continues the tradition of celebrating excellence and resilience, with Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s recognition serving as a testament to the transformative power of dedication and innovation in public service.
