Former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong has paid a courtesy call on His Excellency John Agyekum Kufuor, Ghana’s former head of state at his residence in Peduase in the Eastern Region.
The visit forming part of the Abetifi lawmaker’s ongoing consultations ahead of the January 2026 NPP presidential primaries, was intended to seek his guidance, wisdom, and blessings.
The visit also reflects Dr. Acheampong’s deep respect for party elders and his commitment to drawing from the experience of those who have steered both party and nation through crucial moments in Ghana’s democratic journey.
Former President Kufuor, known for his statesmanship and legacy of good governance, warmly received Dr. Acheampong and shared insightful counsel on leadership, service, and party unity.
This meaningful engagement underscores Dr. Acheampong’s humility, strategic foresight, and readiness to lead with the support and blessing of the party’s most respected figures. It marks a significant step in his journey grounded in legacy, focused on the future.
On the other hand, Dr. Bryan Acheampong on today, June 24, at his Secretariat in Accra, officially declared his – intent – to contest the party’s forthcoming Presidential Primaries slated for January 31st next year.
Dr. Acheampong made the official declaration during a meeting with the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in Accra.
Addressing a team of journalists after the meeting, he emphasized that his decision was informed by the findings of an exploratory committee that spent a month engaging with NPP delegates across the country.
“A decision has been made that I will contest when the party opens nominations,” he said. “But as a product of the Presbyterian Church, it would be inappropriate for the moderator to hear about it first through the media. That’s why I’ve come to inform him personally.”
He added that the report received by him from delegates through the committee reflected a desire for a leader with his skill set—qualities he believes are well aligned with the party’s current needs.
Dr. Acheampong also sought spiritual support from the church, requesting prayers and blessings as he prepares for the internal contest. In response, the Presbyterian Church leadership prayed for him, offering their support as he begins this new political chapter.
On Sunday, June 22, the MP met with former MMDCEs at Kwahu – Nkwatia to formally outline his vision to them.
