The Food and Agriculture Minister and MP for Abetifi constituency, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong has pledged his unflinching support to the Kwahu Youth Choir to ensure that it becomes one of the biggest choral groups in the world.
Speaking at the choir’s first anniversary concert on Saturday 7th September 2024, the Minister said, “This is a very good project and though I do not know exactly what to do, I will speak with the leaders and assist them in any best way I can. I am expecting them to be much bigger than this during their second anniversary”.
The minister wittingly teased the choir by rhetorically saying, “How can someone I played football with, in 1993 (31 years ago) call himself a youth?” He thus, suggested that the choir should consider changing its name or ensuring it has younger ones amongst them.
Nana Boamah Ayirepe III (Nkwatiahene), who served as the chairman for the event, encouraged the choir’s executives and members to continue promoting the Kwahu Agenda.
He emphasized that this initiative is the first of its kind in Kwahuman and has the full support of the entire Kwahu community. He urged the choir to avoid gossip and backbiting and to uphold their motto of “Sing In Unity.”
Davis Opoku Ansah (OPK), the MP for the Mpraeso constituency, called on all Kwahus to embrace the choir and engage them at their events. He pledged to support them with a keyboard, combo, and a cash donation.
The Executive director for the Kwahu Youth Choir, Kaakyire Kwabena Adusah in his address urged Nananom and all well-meaning Kwahu indigenes to come to the aid of the choir to make their dream of promoting Kwahuman through choral music and art to become a reality.
He said, “Nananom and distinguished guests, Easter is an annual celebration that promotes Kwahu, but the Kwahu Youth Choir can promote it on a weekly or monthly basis through our frequent travels to minister at functions. I am therefore pleading with all of you here to adopt the group and together we can make Kwahuman proud”.
The anniversary concert which was held in partnership with the Rock City Hotel had over two hundred (200) guests which included DCEs, MCEs, Rev Ministers as well as other government officials.
The concert which lasted for three hours, got the audience yearning for more when the closing prayer was about to be said.
