A taxi driver and his passenger narrowly escaped death on Thursday afternoon at Achimota, near the Kantanka Automobile showroom in Accra, when a truck carrying charcoal fell on the cab.
The driver, Stephen Akwasi Asare, who looked very shocked, explained that he realised the truck had failed brakes, with the driver attempting to climb the pavement in order to save them.
However, he said he and his passenger had to run and leave their vehicle after they saw that the truck was falling off.
“We are coming all the way from Nsawam but when we got to the Melcom traffic light, we saw the charcoal truck parked there with no vehicle in front of it. After the traffic light had turned green, I moved ahead of it but the other traffic light at the Kantanka Automobile showroom also turned red so I stopped but I realized the charcoal truck had climbed the pavement so realizing we could do nothing, we had to quickly move out,” he stated.
Also, he explained that there was another taxi that was carrying children, but they also escaped as their vehicle was not seriously affected.
