An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful, has granted bail in the sum of GH¢400,000 to a 40-year-old driver, Joseph Aidoo, who is facing multiple charges linked to the possession and sale of narcotic substances and unregistered pharmaceutical products.

Aidoo, arrested during an intelligence-led operation on April 28, 2025, at his drinking spot located at Kpone Adom Estate in Tema, is charged with Unlawful Control of Narcotic Drugs contrary to Section 37 (1)(2)(b) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), and Offering for Sale Unregistered Medicine contrary to Section 2(a) of E.I. 167, 2018, and Sections 118(1) and 129 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851).

He is yet to formally enter a plea.

Chief Inspector Abel Amanie, who is leading the prosecution, told the court that a search conducted on the premises revealed a significant haul of substances suspected to be narcotics.

Among the items recovered were 294 silver foil wraps of whitish rocky substance, 50 brown paper wraps and 30 plain rubber wraps containing dried plant material, as well as 12 dispensary rubber wraps and a plain rubber bag with similar contents.

Further discoveries included 17 plastic bottles of suspected drug-laced liquid, 3 compressed oval brown toffees believed to be infused with narcotics, 55 gold foil wraps, 89 pink paper wraps of whitish powdery substance, and 12 thumb-sized rubber wraps of a whitish rocky material.

In addition to the narcotics, a range of unregistered pharmaceutical products was found at the scene. These included brands such as Timaking 120mg, Tafrotadol caps 120mg, Taramaking 250mg, and Tramaking x225mg — all banned by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) due to safety concerns.

During interrogation, Aidoo admitted ownership of the items and identified “Kwame of Tema” as his supplier. He also detailed the pricing of the substances, which ranged from GH¢10 to GH¢30 per wrap.

The court granted Aidoo bail with two sureties, who must justify the amount with valid title deeds equivalent to the full bail sum. The title deeds are to be deposited with the court registry until the case is concluded.

The case has been adjourned to June 25, 2025, to allow the prosecution time to submit a forensic report on the seized substances.
