A 38-year-old driver, Kojo Addo, has been sentenced to 30 days in prison by the Dansoman Circuit Court for stealing plywood valued at GH¢2,700 from the warehouse of Asuogyaman Company Limited at the Timber Market in Accra.
Addo, a contract driver who regularly visited the warehouse to load goods for customers, pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted accordingly by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit.
In her ruling, the judge took into account that Addo was a first-time offender who admitted the offence without wasting the court’s time.
The court also noted that all 20 pieces of 6mm plywood stolen were retrieved in good condition.
The incident occurred on March 20, 2025, at about 10:30 a.m.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Portia Nuarko, the convict took advantage of a quiet moment at the warehouse to steal the plywood and hid it in a nearby house, intending to retrieve it later.
However, the act was captured by CCTV cameras installed at the warehouse. The footage led to Addo’s arrest and subsequent detention at the James Town Police Station.
During interrogation, Addo confessed to the crime in his cautioned statement and blamed his actions on financial hardship. He led investigators to the location where the plywood was hidden.
The complainant, Eric Badu Odoi, a supervisor at Asuogyaman Company Limited, reported the theft after the company discovered the missing items and reviewed the CCTV footage.
In court, Addo disclosed that he is the father of two young children and earns GH¢300 a day under a “work and pay” arrangement with another company.
