Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) has conducted research in four regions to ascertain the viability of the E-Levy policy among drivers which reveals total rejection.
C-DAG research targeted 200 drivers plying their trade in Ashanti, Eastern, Central and Greater Accra regions on their understanding of the E-levy and whether they are ready for the policy.
Out of the 200 interviewed, 130 drivers rejected the E-levy policy adding that there is no clear interpretation to the policy with 37 of them saying they support the government for the introduction of the policy while 33 standing indifferent.
The National Chairman of C-DAG, Mr. William Osei, said the purpose of the survey was to find out views of members on the subject before any reflective decision.
Regional breakdown
In Ashanti Region, out of 50 drivers interviewed, 31 rejected the E-levy out rightly, nine drivers supported government’s decision to pass the levy and 10 appeared to be indifferent.
“But it must be noted that, these nine drivers who support the E-levy are owners of their vehicles,” he stated.
The Eastern Region saw, 29 out of 50 drivers picked said no to the passage of the levy, 15 of them expressed approval whilst six persons failed to make their positions known publicly.
The chairman of C-DAG said 35 drivers out of 50 interviewed in the Greater Accra Region rejected the E-levy, five drivers agreed with the government to go ahead for the passage while 10 didn’t answer the question.
The Central Region saw 35 drivers rejecting the levy, eight people say they have already lost trust in the government and seven of them said they are not perturbed with the decision that will be taken by the government.
“It is therefore clear that, drivers in the country are not willing to see the levy passed so we wish to state categorically that we will not support the passage of the levy in any form,” he stated.
