Drivers and other road users of the Twifo Praso to Offin Dunkwa and Tarkwa bridge are pleading with authorities to pay attention to the collapsing bridge as it poses a lot of danger to them.
The over 30 years old Twifo Praso bridge that connects Twifo Praso to Dunkwa Offin and Tarkwa has become a death trap for drivers and commuters who ply that bridge for their daily activities.
According to the driver, the bridge is yet to see any form of major renovation since it was built some 30 years ago.
Sources in the region say, all the metals and wood that were used for the bridge have rusted and broken making the bridge a bloody zone.
Some drivers say because almost all the materials used to construct the bridge are weak, moving on the bridge is a death trap.
The drivers added that although a new bridge is being constructed, authorities should at least renovate the old one since it is currently the main route from Twifo Praso to Dunkwa Offin and Tarkwa.
“If authorities do not want to fix the old bridge, then Ghanaians should expect tragic news any moment from now”, a driver said.
In 2019, the DCE, Mr. Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi said the reconstruction of the bridge was given to a Chinese contractor and work was expected to begin last year but the contractor had failed to report on site giving financial reasons.
