Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana (C-DAG) has described the current transport fare increment as woefully inadequate and has therefore rejected the 15% fare adjustment.
In a statement released and signed by C-DAG on February 28 and copied to the Republic Press expressed their dissatisfaction to the executive, legislature and other arms of government for failing to increase the fare for them to be competitive in market.
The statement which was signed by five regional chairmen of C-DAG; Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Northern and Eastern said, “we are not satisfied with the recent 15% increment in transport fares which took effect from, Saturday, February 26, 2022.”
The statement said “the dissatisfaction rises out of the fact that, the prices of petroleum commodities have seen a multiple increment so as the prices of spare parts and lubricants, a situation that far outweighs the 15% increment offered to us.”
It stated further that “we would have to adjust ourselves in order to just keep our business running.”
The chairmen said the only hope of breaking even as making profit out of the business has become unrealistic adding that the association only accepted the increment as a result of the sentiments shared with passenger over the general hardship condition in the country.
“We therefore urge passengers not to quarrel or fight with drivers as the full implementation of the increment in transport fares officially take effect,” they stated.
The association condemned the consistent upward adjustment of fuel prices and its continuous adjustment in the prices of fuel under this government.
The association reminded the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo to live to his promise of ensuring that the prices of fuel are reduced drastically should he become President in 2016.
