Minister for Energy, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has denied that the country is experiencing power crisis under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
Many parts of the country have been experiencing erratic power supply in recent weeks but the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has continuously attributed the power cuts to faulty transformers.
This has resulted in significant discomfort among citizens and businesses and has led to many asking for an official load-shedding timetable from the ECG.
The minister has, however, played down the seriousness of the problem, saying that things are far better now than they were during the Mahama government.
“If you are comparing four years under Mahama and now, the NPP administration in the energy sector is 300 times better than John Mahama,” he stressed.
While acknowledging the existence crisis in the energy sector, he insisted that it would take time for it to be resolved and assured that efforts by the administration are underway.
“I’ve promised you that we are going to work on it and it’s not a work that is a single event it is a process and we’ll continue to work on it for the energy sector to become better.”
On the issue of a load-shedding timetable, he said “ask those who want it to bring it if there is. I haven’t seen any timetable. The ECG has said that there is no timetable so why would you want a timetable? Why would somebody get up and wish evil for the country,” he asked.
