The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has strengthened its presence in the Tema Metropolis with the commissioning of a new office complex designed to ease congestion and improve the delivery of services to motorists and vehicle owners.
The newly constructed facility is expected to operate alongside the existing Tema office, effectively decentralising services that have long been concentrated in a single location.
It is intended to handle key operations such as driver licensing, vehicle registration, roadworthiness certification, and other related regulatory services.
According to the DVLA Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, the expansion forms part of broader efforts to address persistent service delivery challenges in the region.
He explained that the previous setup placed excessive pressure on one office, resulting in long queues, delayed processing times, and unnecessary travel burdens on applicants.
He noted that the situation had created a bottleneck in operations for years, stressing that the authority could no longer sustain such inefficiencies.
The new facility, he said, represents a deliberate step toward modernising service delivery and bringing relief to both staff and the public.
With the additional office now operational, residents of Tema and surrounding communities are expected to experience faster processing times and reduced waiting periods when accessing DVLA services.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey, also underscored the importance of compliance with transport regulations.
He cautioned that the availability of a new DVLA office should eliminate excuses for lapses in vehicle documentation and roadworthiness.
He stressed that motorists and motorbike owners have a responsibility to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and certified, adding that enforcement must now be matched with increased public compliance.
The new DVLA complex is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and strengthen regulatory oversight within the Tema Metropolis and its adjoining areas.
