The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, has announced plans to rename and revamp the DVLA Roundabout in Koforidua in memory of the late former Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.

In a statement reflecting on Dr. Omane Boamah’s life and public service, Minister Awatey explained that the initiative seeks to preserve his legacy and acknowledge his significant contributions to national development, particularly in the Eastern Region.

As part of the tribute, Minister Awatey, along with Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu, visited the late minister’s mother at her residence in Koforidua to honour his memory.

Dr. Omane Boamah was described as a distinguished leader and a proud son of the Eastern Region, whose dedication to public service earned him widespread national respect, most recently as Minister for Defence.

The Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, will oversee a major redesign of the DVLA Roundabout, which will be officially renamed Dr. Omane Boamah Roundabout.

The redesigned landmark is intended to serve as a lasting symbol of patriotism, service, and leadership, while inspiring young people in the region to engage in national service with integrity and dedication.

Minister Awatey expressed hope that the project will continually remind residents, especially the youth, that hard work and commitment to the country can leave a lasting impact. She concluded by paying tribute to the late minister, affirming that the Eastern Region will always remember him as one of its finest sons.
