The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced that Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) driver’s license issued in September 2017 would be replaced with a smart card driver’s license beginning September 17, 2023.
In a statement dated 4th September, 2023, DVLA said “Pursuant to regulation 33(7) of the road traffic regulations, 2021 (LI2180), management wishes to inform staff that, all smart card driver’s licenses issued in September 2017 will be due for replacement beginning September 17, 2023.
The authority also noted that, Holders of the PVC card are to undergo and pass a mandatory eye test at any DVLA accredited eye test centre and present the driver’s license in person to the nearest DVLA office for replacement.
This exercise is expected to end in March, 2024 when all PVC card (driver’s license) shall be declared invalid by the Authority.
