The Deputy Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Sidi Bello has described the controversial E-levy as a draconian tax.
In an interview on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro, Mr Bello noted that the introduction of the E-levy bill will have a negative impact on the mobile money operators.
He said, the E-levy would have more people lose their businesses if it is passed.
He noted that, the commission-based profit, whiles transaction would as well depreciate.
Already the Bank of Ghana had earlier stated that the, momo transactions had reduced by 24% which represents about Gh¢3.billion.
“Base on perception alone, Bank of Ghana reported that Momo transaction had dropped by 24%, but there are ways to avoid this, the time is not yet up, if they pass it, we will tell them because the tax is draconian” he stated.
According to him, government has closed down tollbooths that generates Gh250, 000 a day for the government and the same government is wailing that it does not have money.
