The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that the proposed electronic transaction levy is a plain government thievery designed to rob citizenry.

At a press briefing, the party noted that Ghanaians are already burdened with many taxes resulting in the increase in petroleum products, high tariffs, increase in prices of goods and services, increase in the cost of living and many others so there is no need to add another tax.

The party speaking through the National Youth Organiser of the party, Mr. George Opare Addo described the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia lead administration as incompetent and reckless government who does not consider the plight of his people.

Mr. Addo said the only reasons why the government is doing everything possible to impose the E-levy is that Ghana is not credit worth and cannot borrow or raise bond on the international market and therefore needs the levy to serve as collateral to be able to borrow more.

The NDC on Thursday February 10, 2022 will stage a massive ‘Yentua’ demonstration against the Electronic Levy popularly known as E-levy.

“We demand that the price stabilization and recovery levy be suspended without fail and the irrelevant sanitation and pollution levy all added to the petroleum price build-up be cancelled immediately to halt the incessant hike in fuel prices,” he stated.

Mr. Addo said the impending demo have representatives from leaderships of other political parties, civil society groups, identifiable groups and Ghanaians of all walks of life will converge at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle [Obra Spot] to demonstrate against the E-levy.
