E/R: 5 feared dead, 8 missing after boat capsized on Afram Plains River

At least five (5) people are feared dead in the Afram River in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region after a boat carrying about thirteen people capsized on the river.

At least five (5) people are feared dead in the Afram River in the Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region after a boat carrying about thirteen people capsized on the river.

The incident occurred Thursday morning, November 9, 2023, at Agyata Electoral Area when thirteen (13) persons were crossing the river from Azietsi-Korpe, a village near Agyata community.

Two of the victims, however, managed to swim to safety and were rescued.

The six others have not been found.

Assemblymember of the Area, Johnson Anglesinya, said the people were labourers hired from Maame-krobo and its environs to work on a commercial farm.

Hon. Evans Kyei Ntiri, the Afram Plains South District Chief Executive, told Myrepubliconline.com’s Andy Frimpong Manso in a telephone call that a rescue team made up of police, fire service, and ambulance service is currently on the scene with collaboration from the local residents to rescue the rest.
