The Ghana Police Service has apprehended Solomon Siaw Tetteh, an alleged mastermind behind a notorious carjacking syndicate that has plagued communities within the Krobo enclave of the Eastern Region.

Tetteh, who had been on the police wanted list for multiple vehicle thefts, was arrested on Sunday, May 18, at a hideout in Nuaso, a suburb of Odumase in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality.

His capture follows a failed attempt by officers the previous week, when he narrowly evaded arrest during a raid on his residence.Three of his suspected accomplices were, however, arrested during that operation and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Police say Tetteh and his gang are believed to be behind a spate of vehicle thefts reported in towns including Nkurakan, Somanya, Asesewa, and Ada Magazine. The stolen vehicles were allegedly stripped down, with parts repurposed into coal pots for sale.

Authorities were forced to divert their route while transporting Tetteh to the Koforidua Divisional Police Headquarters after intelligence revealed that a mob had mounted a roadblock at Nkurakan, intending to lynch the suspect in retaliation for his alleged crimes in the area. Officers instead used the Agavenya road to safely reach their destination.

At the station, Tetteh was presented alongside several vehicles and tricycles believed to have been stolen by the syndicate. Despite the presence of victims who identified their missing property, the suspect denied all charges.

Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are underway to arrest additional suspects linked to the criminal ring.

Tetteh is expected to be arraigned before court after the investigation concludes.
