A group of disgruntled Allied Health students have expressed their displeasure with the government’s failure to pay off the 10-month allowance it owes them.
The disappointed students who are doing their National service under the Allied Health Professionals Council are alleging that since they were posted for the service last year October 1, not a single penny has been made available to them.
While speaking to Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic Fm, Wednesday, August 3, Adinyira Benony, a member of the aggrieved Allied Health students said, since last year October, they have written a petition to the Allied Health Professionals Council, Ministry of Finance and Ministry Of health. Mr Benony added that, when they last visited the Allied Health Council, they were told that their names have been submitted to the Health ministry which is also working on it.
He noted that a further step to the Health Ministry, the Ministry told them their names have been forwarded to the finance ministry and said it is working on it. He said, for months now, they haven’t heard anything from the Finance Ministry.
“To be frank, since we began our service last year, October 1, we’ve gone to the Ministries of Health, Finance and even the Allied Health Professionals Council and discussed with them but the issue is that, when we went to the Allied Health Council, they told us that they have given our details to the Health ministry, we went to health and health told us they have forwarded us to the finance. But later, prior to finance, they told us they’re working on it and to date, we haven’t heard anything from them. We wrote a petition to the aforementioned Ministries and nothing has been done”.
The group is calling on all the relevant stakeholders to as a matter of urgency seek solutions to their plights.
Benony further noted that their landlords are holding them into ransom since they are unable to pay for their rents.
“We are going through a lot. Most of us are not able to pay our rent and our landlords are holding us to ransom because we’re owing them. Things are really difficult, we beg President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene on our behalf”, he added
The Allied Health students alone has over 1,000 students excluding other health Professionals. The student-nurses will be cleared out of post this month ending to pave way for new service personnel
