The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Akyemansa district in the Eastern region, Paul Asamoah Gyemah together with a galamsey taskforce have burnt some fifteen (15) Chamfang machines being used by illegal miners on the Pra river.
The fight against illegal mining popularly known as galamsey which the President of the republic, Akufo-Addo swore to fight with his presidency on the line is still a menace in some communities across the country.
In a recent operation led by the Akyemansa DCE, he revealed that, it is very disheartening to see more foreigners involved in galamsey.
According to him, the district does not have the necessary funds to fight galamsey which is causing huge distraction to farm lands in the area hence they will need government’s intervention.
He also mentioned that, government needs more and strict measures to fight illegal mining on the Pra river which flows its banks across the Akyemansa district.
“The only way to stop them is government resourcing the military air force to use their choppers to fly over river bodies to drive away all the galamseyers”, the DCE said.
Some farmers whose farmlands have been destroyed by these illegal miners are also of the view that government is not doing enough to put a stop to the act.
