The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, in collaboration with the Police High Risk Operations and Training Centre, has destroyed about ten acres of cannabis farms in a coordinated anti-narcotics operation in the Eastern Region.

The operation, which led to the arrest of six suspected cultivators, took place at Apraade-Nsuta in the Okere Municipality and Nsuta-Havie in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.

The farms, hidden deep within secluded bush areas, were uncovered after police moved in to apprehend the suspects, leading them directly to the extensive plantations.

Commander of the Police High Risk Operations and Training Centre- Dr. Samuel Antwi-Akomea,

Speaking to the media during the operation, Commander of the Police High Risk Operations and Training Centre, Dr. Samuel Antwi-Akomea, revealed that investigators also discovered illegal electricity connections running into the farms.

According to him, the illicit power supply was deliberately installed to enhance the growth of a high-potency strain of cannabis known as “Amnesia,” which thrives under controlled or enhanced lighting conditions.

He noted that the destroyed farms contained fully matured cannabis plants that were ready for harvesting and processing.

Dr. Antwi-Akomea emphasized that the police are intensifying intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling illegal cannabis cultivation networks across the country, warning that perpetrators will face decisive action in the coming days as part of sustained enforcement efforts.
