A heartbreaking incident occurred in Akyem Batabi, near Oda in Ghana’s Eastern Region, where a five-year-old boy, Yaw Emmanuel, tragically lost his life after a mud bathroom wall collapsed on him.
The unfortunate event took place on Sunday afternoon as Yaw and some friends were walking behind the weakened structure, which had been compromised by recent heavy rains. The wall suddenly gave way, burying the boy under the rubble and killing him on the spot.
His father, Kwadwo Fosu, said that young Yaw was a kindergarten pupil at Batabi Presbyterian Basic School. According to Mr. Fosu, he was alerted by one of the children and rushed to the scene, where he and others pulled out his son’s lifeless body.
The body has since been deposited at the Oda Government Hospital morgue for autopsy. The tragic loss has left the community in mourning, raising concerns about building safety in rain-prone areas.
