Aggrieved residents of Yaw Kwaasi, Amonkrom and it surrounding villages in the Upper West Akyem Districts in the Eastern Region are appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the National Security Minister to immediately deploy men to stop Okyiman Land Protection Agency popularly known as Okyihene Taskforce from terrorizing farmers in the area.

Aggrieved residents of Yaw Kwaasi, Amonkrom and it surrounding villages in the Upper West Akyem Districts in the Eastern Region are appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the National Security Minister to immediately deploy men to stop Okyiman Land Protection Agency popularly known as Okyihene Taskforce from terrorizing farmers in the area.

According to sources, the task force operate house to house, beating the youth and any man they come across for trying to resist them from grading their farm lands.

The situation has forced the youth and the men to abandon the town while a few others who could not run from the town are been chase out with guns by the task force.

Narrating the incident to the media, one of the victims, Nana Awuku said women and children cannot access their farms because the Okyihene task force will beat you while the men are chased out.

Nana Awuku said the most disturbing news happened on Friday where those grading farm lands destroyed the only source of drinking water for the community cutting them from access to water.

He said the destruction of lands and crops by the task force led by one Akwansirahene popularly known as Haruna alleges that it was the Okyihene who authorized them to clear the lands to make way for the Malaysian Sri Oil Company.

“As we speak, more than 2000 farmers are affected with over 3000 acres of farm lands and crops such as plantain, yam, maize, cassava, coco yam have all been destroyed. The rest are palm, coconut, orange, pawpaw and cola-nut plantains have been raised down all in the name of starting a new palm plantation from Malaysia,” he stated.

Other farmers also reveal that, many people out of shock have been admitted at the Nsawam Government Hospital while a few other are contemplating on committing suicide because they have go for loans from the various banks for their work.

It would be recorded that on February 26, 2024, some affected farmers at Asuaba in the same area organized a press conference to voice out their frustrations.

The leader of the press conference since then has not seen peace, as thugs have invaded her house on many occasions.
