A gory accident at Asikuma Junction in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region has claimed the lives of five people, with four others sustaining injuries.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the fatalities in an official statement, noting that the accident occurred early Tuesday morning. A rescue team led by AstnO Fred Aganu and Acting District Fire Officer, ADO I Godwin Gbedemah, was swiftly dispatched from the Peki Fire Station after a distress call.
The collision involved a grey Toyota Noah minibus with registration number GX 422-25 and a tipper truck bearing registration number GT 725-19.
According to GNFS, nine people were involved in the crash. Four victims, including a minor, were rescued and rushed to the Peki Government Hospital by the National Ambulance Service for emergency treatment. Sadly, five others were found unresponsive and their bodies have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and identification.
Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the accident, but investigations are underway.
