Police in Eastern South Region have launched a full-scale investigation into a deadly shooting incident that claimed the lives of five men on Monday, April 29, 2025, at Asiyaw, a community near Ankwa-Dobro in the Nsawam area.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command confirmed the fatalities after a crime scene team responded to distress calls and arrived at the location, where the lifeless bodies of five – adult – males were found with gunshot wounds.

Initial findings point to a violent confrontation between two rival groups allegedly engaged in a dispute over sand winning activities in the area. The disagreement is believed to have escalated into gunfire, resulting in the tragic deaths.

Police recovered a number of items from the scene, including a Toyota Tacoma and a Toyota Tundra, as well as a pump action gun loaded with seventeen live cartridges. Also found were four spent cartridges, three empty 7.62/39mm shells, one empty 9mm shell, and five heavy-duty motorbikes — all of which are expected to aid ongoing investigations.

The bodies of the deceased have been conveyed to the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

Authorities have assured the public that all efforts are being made to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killings. Police have also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
