Hon. Akwasi Konadu, the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, visited the Eastern Regional Forest Service and Wildlife Division (FSD) on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
The visit aimed to enhance collaboration between the Ministry and its agencies and to inform decision-making for stakeholders.
“I am here to familiarize myself with the operations of the Division and strengthen the bond between the Ministry and its agencies,” Hon. Konadu stated.
During the visit, Regional Manager Mr. Noble Eshun presented the division’s activities, achievements, and development needs. Despite surpassing last year’s targets, challenges such as inadequate staffing, logistics, and encroachment on forest reserves by farmers were highlighted.
Mr. Moses Anongura, Regional Manager of the Wildlife Division, raised concerns about managing protected areas and zoos, as well as securing land for a new zoo in New Juaben North District.
Hon. Konadu assured the staff that the Ministry and Commission would provide the necessary logistics to support and motivate them: “We will ensure that logistics are provided to motivate staff both on the field and in the office.”
Additionally, the Deputy Minister inspected trees planted during the Green Ghana Day exercise at the Ministry of Roads and Highway Training Centre, where Principal Mr. Daniel Kojo Asare pledged to nurture the trees to maturity.
The Deputy Minister’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing forestry operations and addressing challenges within the sector.
