The former Director General of Ghana Education Service, Professor Akwasi Opoku Amankwaa, has presented provision packages to over six hundred and forty students who have successfully passed their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and have gained admission into senior high schools in the Birim South district of the Eastern Region.

He said this is a result of his efforts to ensure better and easier access to education for children in the Birim South district.

Speaking to the media, Prof. Akwasi Opoku Amankwaa explained that he has formed an education foundation to help the “needy but brilliant children” in his district.

He also mentioned that he paid for extra classes for all BECE candidates last year, which helped nearly all of the students pass the BECE exams and gain admission to their preferred Senior High schools.

He added that he will continue to assist parents and children in his area because education is very important to him, which is why he became a professor and the director general of the Ghana Education Service, and he would like to see more of his kind in his area.

The Birim South district director of education, Mr. Henry Sintim, speaking to the media after the presentation of items to the children, showed much appreciation to Prof. Akwasi Opoku Amankwaa for his support for the district in terms of education and also disclosed that his effort of financing for extra classes for all the BECE candidates last year really helped all the children perform creditably in the BECE.

The district chief executive for Birim South district, Hon. Asare Danso, who was part of the presentation of items to the students, also expressed much gratitude and appreciation to Prof. Akwasi Opoku Amankwa for his care and support for all the school children in his district since he assumed office as the DCE and is still doing it.

Some of the children who received their provision packages from Prof. Akwasi Opoku Amankwaa while he was speaking to the media expressed their excitement and sincere gratitude to Prof. Akwasi Opoku Amankwaa for his support and prayed to God to keep blessing him in all his endeavours.
