An Nkawkaw circuit court has remanded a 21-year old illegal mining (Galamsey) operator into police custody.
The suspect, Samwin Larbi is accused for the murder of a 52-year old Akua Obiri at Brehenase-Kwahu, a farming community in the Kwahu West Municipality.
Presiding judge sitting on the case, however ruled for the suspect to be kept in police custody and reappear before the court on November 3 for trial proceedings to continue.
Earlier reports noted that the situation has highlighted anger among community folks amid disagreement between the Nkawkaw Central Police and the family of the victim over ¢12,000 fee pegged for an autopsy.
The family contend that they are not in a better position to fund such an outrageous amount for the autopsy, however, the family noted with grave concern that it can only offer ¢2,000.
Nkawkaw District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Victor Kwakye, ruled out the statements by the family, stating that his outfit only informed the victim’s family the need for an autopsy but did not mentioned an amount as stipulated. Investigation continues unabated.
