A fire outbreak at the Oyoko Methodist Senior High School in Koforidua on Monday, August 4, 2025, was swiftly brought under control by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), preventing a potentially major disaster.
The blaze affected only the two-bedroom self-contained apartment occupied by the housemaster, located on the first floor of a one-storey building. The fire gutted the roof, ceiling, furniture, home appliances, and several personal belongings.
Thanks to the swift and tactical intervention by firefighters, the adjoining boys’ dormitory was successfully saved from the flames.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at 6:24 p.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of two fire engines to the school. The first engine, led by ADO I Asare, arrived at the scene by 6:34 p.m., managed to bring the fire under control by 7:24 p.m., and fully extinguished it by 8:29 p.m.
Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire. However, preliminary assessments suggest that an electrical fault within the ceiling of the housemaster’s apartment may have sparked the blaze.
