E/R: Kabaka Foundation hands over furnished KG Block to Asikasu GES

The Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia, Nana Owiredu Wadie I, has handed over a fully furnished kindergarten classroom block, built by his nonprofit organization, Kabaka Foundation, to the Ghana Education Service in Asikasu, a farming community in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

Prior to this intervention, Asikasu and seven neighbouring farming communities lacked a dedicated KG block for early learners, leaving many children of school-going age either out of school or forced to walk long distances to access education in other areas. Makeshift structures were previously used, which contributed to the low enrollment.

Upon learning of the children’s plight, Nana Owiredu Wadie I initiated the construction of the modern KG block, which was completed in just six months and handed over to the Ghana Education Service on his birthday. The facility includes two classrooms for KG 1 and 2, a TV room, a washroom, and an office, all fully furnished with tables, chairs, and learning materials.

At the commissioning ceremony, New Juaben North Municipal Education Director, Helina Amegatse, praised the facility as one of the best in the region and expressed optimism that it would significantly improve learning outcomes for the children.

Nana Owiredu Wadie I highlighted the importance of early childhood education in shaping future leaders, stating, “Quality facilities and educational resources significantly impact children’s learning and development. This new kindergarten block represents a major step forward in our commitment to providing quality education for our children.”

Henry Larbi, Executive Director of the Kabaka Foundation, emphasized the foundation’s dedication to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4—quality education. He noted, “The idea is to help achieve UN SDG 4. Looking at the kids, the Kabaka Foundation recognized that they need to start well, so we provided this educational infrastructure to ensure they receive the best education possible.”

Clementina Ahenkwa Mensah, Headmistress of Asikasu Presby Basic School, expressed her joy over the project, stating that it will provide access to quality early childhood education for seven communities in the area.

In addition to the classroom block, Nana Owiredu Wadie I donated learning materials, bags, and uniforms to the kindergarten pupils. The local communities praised him for the initiative, which they believe will have a lasting impact on the development of the area and the country as a whole.
