Residents of Mensakrom near Kyekyewere in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region continue to live in fear due to the land guards terrorising them in the area.
The Chief of Mensakrom, Nana Baffour Mensah Ababio II, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police to immediately clamp down on the activities of the land guards in the area.
According to the Chief, these land guards were brought to the town by one Mr Akwasi Antwi popularly known as Kwasi Scout to ensure that he is installed as chief of the same town.
He said ever since these people came to the town, there have been many attacks on innocent victims who are perceived not to be in support of him.
Nana Ababio has therefore accused one Mr Kwasi Antwi, popularly known as Kwasi Scout who happens to be his niece as the one behind all the attacks in the area.
He said the latest attacks were melted to an innocent woman who has been prepared to be installed as queen, Mrs Mary Aboama.
The Chief said the attackers used the blade to redesign her face to deter her from accepting the queenship post and when the case was reported to the Teacher Mante Police, the attackers were granted bail by the assemblyman of Kyekyewere, Mr Yaw Paul.
Nana Ababio alleged that Mr Antwi is doing everything possible to ensure that he is destooled as chief of Mensakrom.
He said after the bail, the case was sent to Sakyikrom for settlement but the other party failed to attend the meeting.
“It was through my ingenuity that we were connected to the national grade, brought the school to the town, polling station and established an information centre to help them develop the town.
He, therefore, called on the IGP to monitor issues in the area to avert any clash.
Reacting to the issues, Mr Antwi denied all the allegations of him being behind the attacks on Ms Aboama adding that Nana Ababio is not his uncle but rather calls him so out of respect.
He said, “initially I was not interested in the chieftaincy title but only showed interest when the Apagwa chief threatened to sell the thrown if we don’t provide the right person to occupy it.”
According to Mr Antwi, the Apagwa people contested Nana Ababio’s instalment as chief.
Mensakrom which is located along the Accra-Suhum Highway has a population of less than 2000 but now has two chiefs from the same family.
