The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Ansah Opoku affectionately referred to as OPK has vowed to clamp down on illegal mining (Galamsey) in his constituency.

Speaking on Republic FM on Monday, August 1, the MP stated the projects and initiatives that have been undertaken by his outfit within the 2 years he assumed office.

“Well, I think at the end of my term I want to be a leader who was close to the people. You see all these projects, I don’t have money to do that, the best I do is to enter places and lobby and bring them. I’ve created an office in Mpraeso where the MP can engage his people. I have chiefs waiting for me, we will meet with them and discuss issues with them collectively”, he affirmed.

The MP further assured that the issue of illegal mining (Galamsey) will be dealt with according to law.

He indicated that his outfit has received reports of some galamsey activities in Osubeng which he will be visiting soon to stop them.

“I’ve been told about illegal mining activities going in Osubeng. Already, I’ve had indications and hopefully, I will go there soon to see how best we can halt the situation. What I’m saying is that, if anybody wants to engage in mining, it has to be the community itself so that it benefits the community. Chiefs, Assembly members and the community will have to sit down and when they mine they will be able to use them to develop the community.”
