The 1989 Middle School year group of the Presbyterian basic school has donated some education and learning materials to school children in Nkwatia.

The group made the donations at the Nkwatia Ramseyer Presby on Sunday, April 17, 2022, during a church service.

Speaking to Republic FM’s Andy Frimpong Manso, the spokesperson for the group, Mr. Addo Danso stated that the Nkwatia Presby middle school now JHS gave them a very strong foundation from the basic level and that has elevated them to live a good socioeconomic life.

He said, this propelled them to organize themselves and saw the need to give back to the society, hence the donations to the school.

“We are past students of Nkwatia Presby middle school now what they call JHS and we realized that we had a very strong foundation from the basic level and that has helped us in living a good socioeconomic life, and so, we organize ourselves and that is the 1989 year group of Nkwatia Presby, and we saw the need to give back to the society”, he stated.

The donations comprises of 1,000 pieces of exercise books, and related learning materials including pencils, markers and pens in order to motivate the school children to continue in their enrollment which according to him, parents sometimes find it difficult in providing these learning materials, although they wish to give their wards education.

The association began about six months ago, making their first donation since the inception of the group. The group has however reiterated that it will consecutively meet with the school authorities to know about the challenges facing the school and how best it can help to resolve them.

“We started the association about six months ago and so this is our first donation, and subsequently, other things will follow. We will meet with the headmaster to know more about the challenges in order to come in when necessary”, the PRO said.

The headmaster of the school, Mr. Fred Gyimah Asiedu added that some children of the school have been facing challenges in terms of access to reading and writing books.

He stated that there are instances where he has to provide these children books from his own office because during monitoring, teachers report to him that some of the school children do not have exercise books and other learning materials.

He said, these donations have come at the appropriate time and it will go a long way to provide assistance to the children when school reopens.

The school has a population of about 350 and above, which means the provision of the 1,000 books gives at least a maximum helping hand to these children.

The headmaster commended the group for its tremendous efforts in assisting the children to get quality access to education.

However, the headmaster called on all and sundry to come to their aid to provide the school with a Mower to clear the compound as when necessary.
