The incumbent Eastern Regional secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo has said that the NPP is not tribal party as many perceive.
The Regional Chairman hopeful’s assertions comes after the former MP for Adenta, Mr. Adu Asare made some frivolous statements saying, Kwahus are not content with the fact that they have been given a regional minister, council of state members yet, they want to whisk away the regional Chairmanship position in the region.
But reacting to the statement, Mr. Jeff Konadu insisted that the NPP is not and can never be a tribal political party.
“I can tell you that NPP is not tribal. NPP is a party that has all tribes in it. Everyone has the opportunity to vouch for a position in it. I don’t want to give an attention that sort of tribal politics the person is doing. I don’t want to give it the credence. What I want is that, for us in the Eastern Region, we are one people”, he told Kwame Koranteng on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro on Friday, May 19.
“We are not working on tribal lines, we are working on competence. Who can do the work and not who is from where or whatsoever. If it’s an Ewe that can work as NPP Regional Chairman, Hallelujah. We don’t want that tribal sentiment and tribal bigotry in it”, he said.
The regional elections will come off next week Saturday, May 28th, 2022. The regional elections committee has not communicated out yet, the venue of the elections.
