The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region has called on the president to suspend the transition process until the Electoral Commission (EC) announces the results of four yet-to-be-declared parliamentary constituencies.
These constituencies Suhum, Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North are at the center of the NPP’s demand, as the party asserts victory based on its internal collation system.
The NPP claims its internal system, which relies on pink sheets issued by Presiding Officers, confirms their dominance in these constituencies.
These legal documents reportedly solidify the party’s stronghold in the Eastern Region, where it has already secured 19 seats, including key constituencies such as Akuapem North, New Juaben North, and Abuakwa South.
Meanwhile, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has gained seven constituencies in the region, including Afram Plains South, Asuogyaman, and Lower Manya Krobo. An independent candidate has also claimed the Afram Plains North seat.
The NPP alleges that intimidation and acts of violence by the NDC are delaying the declaration of the results in the remaining constituencies. They are urging the EC to swiftly announce the results based on the verified outcomes from polling stations, ensuring the will of the people is respected.
Call for Justice and Security
The party has appealed to the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to address the reports of unrest in the disputed constituencies. The NPP emphasized the need for professionalism and impartiality from these institutions in maintaining order and upholding justice.
“The NPP remains committed to protecting the sanctity of the democratic process and ensuring the people’s choice prevails,” a party spokesperson said.
Message to Supporters
The NPP has called on its supporters to remain calm and vigilant as they await the EC’s final declarations. The party remains confident in its stronghold on the Eastern Region, highlighting its track record in development and governance as a foundation for its success.
With the region’s future governance at stake, the NPP is pushing to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process, vowing to protect their claimed victories and uphold the democratic values of the nation.
