The Ghana Police Service, through the Koforidua Municipal Investigative Team led by Augustine Asante Kusi, has arrested three members of a counterfeit cash syndicate operating across the Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
The suspects Ebenezer Natsu (20), George Attor (48), and Bishop Robert Olertey (54) were apprehended by the Odumase-Krobo Police, who recovered 105 bundles of counterfeit US $100 notes, amounting to $1,050,000, at their hideout in Laasi, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo. The fake currency was concealed in a black-and-red spotted metal trunk.
Police sources revealed that the arrests, made on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, followed intelligence shared with the Odumase-Krobo Police, led by D/Cpl Williams Asante. The suspects were reportedly preparing to distribute the counterfeit notes in exchange for Ghana cedis, targeting the local Odumase-Krobo market day.
During the operation, Bishop Robert Olertey allegedly offered GH¢200,000 in genuine cash to settle the matter and avoid arrest. The police rejected the bribe and proceeded with the arrests, transporting the suspects and the exhibits to the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command for further investigation.
The case has since been handed over to the Akosombo Police Division, under the leadership of Chief Superintendent Doris Grant, for additional investigations and necessary action.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, suspect Ebenezer Natsu was arraigned before the Odumase Circuit Court and remanded in custody to assist police with ongoing investigations, while the other two suspects were granted police enquiry bail.
