E/R: Police gun down one robbery suspect in shootout at Donkorkrom; wounded accomplices abscond

On Monday, August 25, 2025, at about 17:55pm, police gathered intelligence that a gang of armed robbers had planned to lay siege on travelers plying the Donkorkrom -Agordeke highway in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District.

Consequently, a combined team made up of the surveillance team based in Donkorkrom and officers from the Donkorkrom Divisional Police Command proceeded to the Donkorkrom – Agordeke highway and layed ambush for the arrest of the suspected robbers.

At about 19:30 hours, whiles the team were still in the bush at a section of the said highway, officers saw two motorbikes from Donkorkrom direction towards the Agordeke road. The team on suspicion stopped occupants of the motorbikes who refused and sped off and fired opened fire speeding off.

The team pursued and exchanged fire which resulted in the killing of one suspect in the process. The suspect, according to police, is not yet identified. He’s believed to be 20 years old. The deceased was hit by ammunition and fell from the motorbike. The accomplices sustained gunshot wounds but managed to escaped, leaving the two motorbikes behind.

The motorbikes were one unregistered Honda  motor and another Honda with registration no. M – 24 – NR 1684 . One Sten MK II rifle, 46 rounds of 9mm ammunitions of which 18 were loaded in the magazine, 19 live BB cartridges, four talismans, one Infinix android mobile phone, one Tecno android mobile phone, one Itel keypad mobile phone and a quantity of fluid in a bottle suspected to be honey were the items retrieved.

The suspect was rushed to the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom but was pronounced dead on arrival.The body of the deceased has been deposited at the  morgue for preservation and autopsy, whereas the two Honda motorbikes and the other exhibits mentioned  retained for evidence.
