A male nurse has exercised his tremendous act of saving lives as a member of the registered nurse association of Ghana in AMARTEY, one of the many villages in the Kwahu South District in the Eastern Region.
According to the young nurse, William Kwame Otu who spoke to Kwame Koranteng, on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic FM on November 2, 2021, the pregnant woman is a client at the Amartey Health Facility.
The nurse noted that upon series of test and examination, the pregnant woman’s Blood Pressure and protein urine wasn’t in tact and since the town lacks the equipment to deliver proper health care and also due to the deplorable nature of roads, she was referred to the Kwahu Government hospital which is the Atibie Hospital some three months ago.
William Otu indicated that when the pregnant woman came to Atibie government hospital, she was made aware she can’t give birth in the village.
He revealed that, out of nowhere, the heavily pregnant woman was rushed to their facility early in the morning and upon her arrival, series of test was conducted
The test results revealed that she is not fully dilated and can’t give birth immediately, though her BP had gone up with her baby bump, face and feet been swollen.
He stated that the midwife advised that, she must be taken to the Atibie government hospital for proper delivering processes.
Due to the nature of bad roads, the only access to convey people is by motor. William admitted that, the pregnant woman in labor was put on the back of a motor to convey her to the hospital.
The good Samaritan nurse followed the motor carrying the pregnant woman for reason that if the unfortunate happens then he will be of assistance to the pregnant woman so he got prepared and took some hospital equipment and sped off.
He said, just some few meters away after catching up with the motor carrying the woman, he heard the pregnant woman screaming and she exclaimed, she wants to ease herself. As professional nurse, his expertise made him aware the baby will be coming out soon, so he quickly told her, it’s the baby.
In the process, he laid down a cloth and admitted the woman in the middle of the dusty and abandoned deplorable road and assisted her to deliver safely.
He revealed, the woman is safe and currently receiving proper care at the Atibie Government Hospital.
William Otu said, this is not the first time such incidence has happened in the area due to nature of health facility challenges and bad roads.
