E/R: Rebecca Foundation, ASR Initiative to construct library and ICT lab at Bepong

The Rebecca foundation in partnership with the Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR-Nigeria) foundation has cut sod for the construction of Library and an ultra modern ICT lab at Bepong – Kwahu in the Eastern Region.

The Rebecca foundation in partnership with the Abdul Samad Rabiu (ASR-Nigeria) foundation has cut sod for the construction of Library and an ultra modern ICT lab at Bepong – Kwahu in the Eastern Region.

During the sod cutting ceremony held in Bepong Senior High School on Tuesday, May 17, the Director of Operations at the office of the first Lady, Mrs. Akosua Newman said, the Rebecca foundation believes in taking every opportunity to make a difference.

“At the Rebecca Foundation, we believe in seizing every potential avenues to make difference”, she said.

The project is a partnership with the Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa initiative to improve literacy in children under the Rebecca Foundation’s Learning to read and Reading to learn initiative.

Under this initiative, the Rebecca Foundation has already built 10 libraries around the country. These libraries have improved learning and the outcome for children in these communities has improved immensely.

With the partners from the ASR Africa, the Rebecca looks forward to build more of these libraries in other communities, according to Mrs. Akosua Newman.

Mrs. Akosua Newman shared a lot of appreciation being meted out by the Bepong traditional authority for their immense support and called on them to ensure the full impact of the Library and the ICT lab in the area.

Representative from the ASR, Umar Udoh said, the Alhaji Abdul Rabiu initiative fund focuses on education, health and social developments.

The brainchild of the ASR has dedicated that $50 million dollars will be directed to development within Nigeria annually. Additionally, $50 million has been dedicated to the African continent, the Rep, Umar Udoh said.

“$50 million of this fund will be dedicated to development within Nigeria and he graciously granted $50 million of this fund to the African continent”, he stated.

The ASR presented a letter of award for $500,000 dollar grant to the Rebecca foundation which was dedicated to education and specifically, public libraries.

The ASR presented additional $3 million dollar grant to the Ghanaian which is being put into education to combat the school under trees projects.

The ASR commended the Rebecca foundation for doing excellent job not in selecting the project but in the commitment towards ensuring the projects is something that fit into the modern day education and providing these children comparative advantage in competing with their peers all over the world.

Mr. Umar Udoh added that the project is not just a library and ICT center but a safe educational and social spaces where children and the community can come together and learn together.

The Chief of Bepong Nana Amoako Bawuah ||and the Kwahu South Municipal Assembly donated the land to the Rebecca foundation to enable them construct such project for the Bepong community.

The project is literally handed over to the Ghana Library Board. In that sense, the project is jointly owned by the Rebecca foundation, the People of Bepong and the Ghana Library Board.
