Residents of Kwahu Kotoso, a community in the Kwahu East District, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the poor condition of the road network in their area.
Several residents have highlighted the severe impact of the deteriorating roads, which make commuting a challenge.
Madam Comfort Enyornam, also known as Evivi, pointed out that the road leading to the market is in such bad shape that her goods often fall during transport, leading to significant financial losses.
She has called on the government to address this issue urgently. Additionally, she noted the lack of a proper public toilet in the market, which exacerbates the community’s difficulties.
The residents also voiced concerns over the high cost of premix fuel, which is affecting canoe owners and river transportation.
According to Dadavi, the increased price of premix fuel has forced canoe owners to raise their fares.
She explained that what should be a Gh₵15 journey from the end of the Afram River to the market now costs between Gh₵20 and Gh₵25, severely impacting their business operations. Small sack bags, which should typically be transported free of charge, are now being charged between Gh₵5 and Gh₵10 due to the inflated fuel costs.
Mr. Godfrey, a canoe rider, described how delays and shortages in premix fuel supply are disrupting their movements on the Afram River, resulting in losses and delays.
He attributed part of the fuel issue to individuals who neither own nor ride canoes but are still central to the fuel distribution in Kwahu Kotoso.
Hon. James Hanihu, the Assembly Member for the Kotoso Electoral Area, acknowledged the challenges faced by canoe owners, traders, and passengers.
He reported that his office has submitted letters to the Kwahu East District Assembly, but no significant actions have been taken so far.
Hanihu also mentioned that the public toilet by the river has been washed away, and he appealed to the government for intervention to address the premix fuel situation and implement proper infrastructure.
