Two people have died and four others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a DAF truck, a VW Sprinter bus and a tricycle at Dr. Marbel Junction on the Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.

The crash occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, with personnel from the Suhum Municipal Fire Station responding after receiving a distress call at about 11:21 a.m.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the six victims comprised five males and one female. One of the injured victims was found trapped underneath the DAF truck when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters used specialised extrication equipment to rescue the trapped victim before transporting the person to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical treatment.

Brake Failure Suspected

Preliminary investigations indicate that the DAF truck, registered BF 1722E6, suffered an apparent brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a VW Sprinter bus with registration number ER 195-24.

The force of the collision reportedly pushed the bus into a parked tricycle, registered M-25-AS 8071, causing significant damage to all three vehicles.

The two fatalities were identified as one male and one female, while the four injured victims were conveyed to a nearby health facility for treatment.

The Ghana Police Service also attended the scene and is assisting with the response and ongoing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Call for Vehicle Maintenance

Following the incident, the Eastern Regional Fire Command has urged motorists to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance and servicing.

Motorists have also been advised to exercise greater caution on the roads to help reduce the risk of preventable accidents.
