The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly plotting to assassinate the Akyem Kwabeng Chief and Okyeman Gyaasehene, Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamato II.
The suspects, identified as Emelia Akua Asor and Butuakwa Seth, were arrested following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered a plan to eliminate the chief ahead of his maiden royal durbar, scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.
The police indicated that after getting wind of the assassination plot, they deployed undercover officers who embedded themselves in the network of the suspects.
During the operation, the suspect, Emelia Akua Asor allegedly offered GH₵50,000 to undercover officers to carry out the killing of both the Chief and another woman who was reportedly being considered for installation as Queen Mother and promised an additional GH₵50,000 after the act.
Investigations revealed that she also instructed her accomplice, Butuakwa Seth to assist in identifying the residences of the intended victims. Seth later led officers to the homes of the Chief and the woman, and provided a photograph of the Chief to facilitate the planned attack.
The timely intervention of the police prevented what could have been a tragic event.
Both suspects are currently in custody, assisting with further investigations, and are expected to be arraigned before court soon.
