Property Owners Association at East Legon Mempeasem, a suburb of Ayawaso West Wuogon Municipality of the Greater Accra Region whose properties were demolished by some armed Policemen and some self-acclaimed officials of Lands Commission have threatened to subscribe to self-defence over what they term as failed justice.
The aggrieved residents in a press conference have called on the justice delivery agencies to expedite action to bring all the perpetrators to book otherwise, they will use another means that will serve as a threat to the country’s security.
According to them, their action is a result of the long silence after scores of buildings were pulled down by some suspected persons alleged to have been hired by one Clement Gyato under the supervision of armed Policemen in the East Legon enclave.
A spokesperson for the association, Mr. Kwasi Taylor also a National Communications team member of the New Patriotic Party in talks with the media instituted accusations on President Akufo-Addo for allowing his appointees to use the state’s security in taking people’s properties at East Legon Mempeasem.
It will be recalled that on January 17, 2023, about 100 armed Policemen pulled down buildings which according to them fall within government lands.
The agitated landowners were highly optimistic to get justice after legal documents backing their ownership of those parcels of land were shown.
The association has however given authorities a 14 days ultimatum for justice to prevail. They added that failure by authorities to meet their demands will leave them no option but to fall on self-defence.
